Test your Afrihost fibre, Air LTE or 5G connection and check it against what your package should deliver.
Afrihost sells fibre over networks such as Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot and Octotel, plus Afrihost Air, which is fixed LTE and 5G delivered over partner mobile networks. Fibre results should track your package closely; Air results move with signal and time of day.
| Afrihost product | Typical download | Typical ping | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fibre up to 100 Mbps | Within about 10% of package | 3–15 ms | HD and 4K streaming, calls, browsing |
| Fibre 200 Mbps – 1 Gbps | Within about 10% on a cable, less on WiFi | 2–12 ms | Working from home, families, heavy downloads |
| Air 5G | 60–350 Mbps | 15–40 ms | 4K streaming, working from home |
| Air LTE | 10–60 Mbps | 30–70 ms | Browsing, HD streaming, calls |
Air speeds assume three or more bars with the router at a window. Afrihost publishes fair-use terms for uncapped Air plans; check them if speed drops late in the month.
Rule of thumb: fibre under 80% of package on a cable is a ticket. On Air, 50–80% of your best-ever daytime result is normal at peak.
Split the problem into WiFi, line and ISP. These steps tell you which one you are dealing with.
The fibre operator owns the cable and the ONT on your wall. Afrihost buys capacity on that network and routes your traffic. A dead line is the operator’s problem, and an evening slowdown on a healthy line is usually the ISP’s. Either way you log with Afrihost, but the distinction helps you describe the fault properly.
Air runs on mobile towers with battery backup. During long outages towers get congested and speeds fall. Fibre is unaffected if your ONT and router are on a UPS.
Test on a cable. If the cable matches your package, WiFi is the bottleneck. If not and the ONT lights are normal, log a ticket with your numbers.
Air 5G typically 60–350 Mbps and Air LTE 10–60 Mbps with a good signal at a window, lower at peak.
Uncapped Air plans have fair-use terms that can reduce speed after heavy use. Fibre packages are not throttled.
