Test your Supersonic fibre or Air Fibre connection and see whether it matches your package.
Supersonic is MTN’s home internet brand. It sells fibre over operators such as Vumatel, Openserve and Frogfoot, and Air Fibre, which is fixed 5G and LTE on the MTN network. Fibre results track the package; Air Fibre results depend on signal and tower load.
| Supersonic product | Typical download | Typical ping | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fibre up to 100 Mbps | Within about 10% of package | 3–15 ms | HD and 4K streaming, calls |
| Fibre 200 Mbps – 1 Gbps | Within about 10% on a cable, less on WiFi | 2–12 ms | Working from home, families, downloads |
| Air Fibre 5G | 80–400 Mbps | 12–35 ms | 4K streaming, working from home |
| Air Fibre LTE | 15–70 Mbps | 25–60 ms | Browsing, HD streaming, calls |
Air Fibre ranges assume a good signal with the router at a window. Uncapped Air Fibre plans have fair-use terms that can reduce speed after heavy use.
Rule of thumb: fibre under 80% of package on a cable is a fault. Air Fibre at 50–80% of your best daytime result is normal at peak.
Find out whether the problem is WiFi, signal, the line or the ISP.
If fibre is available at your address, it is almost always the more consistent choice: no signal issues, no peak-hour tower congestion, and it keeps working through load-shedding on a small UPS. Air Fibre 5G is the right pick where fibre has not arrived, and in strong 5G coverage it can match a 100–200 Mbps fibre line.
Signal and congestion. Move the router to a window, check the bars, and compare a daytime test with an evening one before contacting Supersonic.
Within about 10% of your package on a cable. WiFi results will be lower on faster packages.
Uncapped Air Fibre plans have fair-use terms that can reduce speed after heavy monthly use. Fibre is not throttled.
Fibre runs over operators such as Vumatel and Openserve; Air Fibre runs on the MTN 5G and LTE network.
